Google Takeout zip files won't extract
Takeout parts are large zips with deep folder names. Built-in extractors sometimes fail or are slow.

Common problems
- Windows Explorer errors or freezes on very large zips – use 7-Zip (free) instead.
- Path too long – extract to a short folder like
C:\T\, or enable long paths in Windows. - Not enough space – extracting doubles the space needed (zip + extracted files).
- Damaged part – a download that stopped early; download that part again.
Merging parts
Each part contains a Takeout/Google Photos/ tree. Extract all parts into the same destination folder so the album and year folders merge (7-Zip: select all parts › Extract files… › same folder). A photo's JSON can be in a different part than the photo – merging matters.
Skip extracting
Rollmend reads the zip parts directly: select all takeout-*.zip files at once. It pairs photos and JSON across parts and writes a fixed, deduplicated year/month export – saving the disk space and time of extracting first. Chrome or Edge can save the result straight to a folder.
Scan your Takeout first – free. Rollmend reads your Google Photos Takeout folder or zip parts in the browser, matches every photo and video with its JSON (including .supplemental-metadata.json and cut-off names), writes the real date, GPS and caption back into the files, removes album duplicates and exports a year/month folder. Nothing is uploaded. The scan report is free for everything and 50 files can be fixed free; a $15 one-time license fixes the whole library.
